I loved this, such a delight. My first novel was written over 20 years and was a pantser by default. My second was a plotser and felt much easier to write. It may have been the 6 months vs 20 year thing.

I can see how easier and faster would win out. Having experienced both, which journey do you think was most satisfying?

My first book due to the 20 years it took was so painful and a bit of a mess. Partially due to pantser, partially due to the time and partially due to my inexperience. I doubt I will go back to pantser just because it was so much better for me mentally to have the plan.

Oh Zelly! Me too! I've tried numerous outlines, but the fun and catharis comes when I go on a detour. Then I have to retrofit to make sure things are where they're supposed to be.

Yes! Exactly! I write much better when I let the story go where it wants.

I love being a pantser until I reach the middle of the book, when I can't figure out what comes next. Sigh.

I get that! The middle is a a tough place. I can only shake it if I print the pages, put all the chapters on the floor, then switch and swap pieces. This recipe calls for a red pencil, scissors and a full tape dispenser.
